This subcategory contains 16 links Arlington County, Virginia — an urban county of about 26 square miles located directly across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C. — has an interesting and unique history. Home to American Indian communities for more than 10,000 years, it was also explored by English settlers in the early 1600s. The Library of Virginia Fiddle Tunes of the Old Frontier: The Henry Reed Collection is a multi-format ethnographic field collection of traditional fiddle tunes performed by Henry Reed of Glen Lyn, Virginia. 17th century governor. One of the oldest political subdivisions in Virginia, Henrico was the scene of the second settlement in the colony and was established in 1634 as one of the eight original shires or counties. The county was named for Henry, Prince of Wales, the eldest son of King James I of England. Israel Hill on the Appomattox was a community in Prince Edward County that was made up of freed slaves who lived, married, were commercial successes, and even sued white members of Prince Edward County, and won the lawsuits at least as frequently as they lost.
